Welcome to Lymphatic Therapy Services, where we are committed to helping you treat and manage issues with lymphedema, lipedema, Dercum's disease, and related conditions. We provide empathetic and thoughtful care, individualized solutions, and professional guidance to help you improve your quality of life. Whether you need relief from swelling and inflammation, post-surgical care, or desire to find nutrition solutions for your lymphatic condition for optimum health, we are here to serve you every step of the way.

Lymphedema

Lymphedema is a condition in which fluid accumulates in the interstitial tissue due to a lymph system that has become blocked due to surgery or trauma, or is not functioning correctly. Swelling results from fluid accumulation, usually in an arm or leg, but can also occur in other body regions. It leads to discomfort, reduces mobility, and increases the risk of infection.

Development of Lymphedema

If the lymphatic system is ineffective in transporting fluid, proteins can build up in the interstitial tissue. This progression attracts more fluid into the tissue, creating pressure on the tissue and surrounding vessels. Fluid accumulation can ultimately cause inflammation and fibrosis and further worsen lymphatic function. While there is no specific cure for lymphedema, Complex Decongestive Therapy (CDT) effectively manages this condition. CDT consists of Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD), compression, remedial exercises, and manual lymph drainage (MLD). Surgery is an option, and we help clients with pre- and post-surgical care for lymphedema microsurgery. Microsurgery consists of Lymph venous anastomosis (LVA), lymph node transfer (LNT), or lymph node vessel transfer (VLNT).

Lipedema

Lipedema is a genetic condition in which fat becomes unevenly distributed in portions of the body, typically the arms, hips, and legs. Unlike usual fat deposits, lipedema fat hurts and does not respond to traditional diets or physical activity. Many lipedema patients are faced with repeated misdiagnosis or miscomprehension of their condition, which leads to frustration and a feeling of helplessness—in addition to mental and emotional distress.

Lipedema vs Lymphedema

Lymphedema and lipedema are distinct conditions; however, if left untreated, lipedema can progress to lymphedema. Both conditions are treated with multimodal and multidisciplinary therapies and regimens that reduce swelling, inflammation, discomfort, and enhance overall health.

Role of Lymphatic Therapy

Role of Lymphatic Therapy

Manual Lymph drainage massage is a lymphatic therapy that stimulates lymph fluid movement throughout the body. Manual lymph drainage (MLD) with compression therapy and proper exercise regimens is a very effective way to reduce inflammation. The therapies reduce swelling, tissue protein adhesions, discomfort, and movement. Advanced techniques are used by trained therapists, such as decongestive exercises designed to suit each patient's needs. Patients are also educated on self-care routines, including skin hygiene to avert infection, a vital aspect of proper lymphedema management.
