Aromatherapy & Essential Oils to Support the Lymphatic System

In my last blog post I explained the importance of the lymphatic system and that the lymph system plays a very important role in our health and wellness, immunity and detoxification of wastes. Today we’ll be discussing the amazing results we get when we combine lymph massage with aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is a holistic therapy utilizing essential oils from plants for their effects on the body spiritually, emotionally and physically.

There are specific essential oils that help reduce swelling in tissue due to their lymphatic-stimulation and anti-inflammatory properties.
Essential Oils for the Lymphatic System

Angelica root (angelica Archangelica) Citrus – Bergamot (Citrus bergamia,) Lemon (citrus limon) , Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) , cypress (cupresssus sempervirens ) Sweet orange (Citrus Sinesis) are high in monoterpenes and are antiseptic, antimicrobial, antibacterial and decongesting.

Cedar (cedrus atlantica) and angelica root (angelica Archangelica) are rich in the monoterpene, a-pinene and have antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, immunostimulating antibacterial properties.

Angelica Root (angelica Archangelica) is a made up of 70% monoterpenes and also has furocoumarins. Coumarins have a strong affinity to the nervous system and also are phototoxic. This ancient oil is excellent to use improve lymphatic drainage, has an anti-inflammatory effect on the tissues and reduces fluid retention. It is wonderful to use to detoxify after an illness. Great to relieve nervous tension!

Bay Laurel (Laurus nobilis) Stimulates the formation of lymphocytes and is an immune stimulant.
It is considered a lymphatic regulator and aids swollen glands. Laurel is particularly renowned for its incredible effects on both the immune system and lymphatic system and can be massaged onto the nodes. Immune stimulant, used for colds, flu and viral infections.

Cypress ( Cupressus Sempervirens)is also high in monoterpenes (alpha pinene) and is beneficial for decongesting the circulatory and lymphatic systems and also helps with edema, cellulite, varicose veins, and water retention. Cypress stimulates blood and lymph and also circulates the Qi energy of the body.

Juniper Berry (juniperis communis) oil is also high in alpha-pinene. It works as a detoxifier and cleanser. It has been used to promote better nerve and kidney function and aids lymphatic circulation and drainage.

Grapefruit (citrus paradisi) essential oil is produced by expression of the peel of the fruit. It can contain up to 90% of limonene with citral, geraniol, cadinene and paradisol. Grapefruit essential oil is valued for its ability to help with fluid retention and cellulite. It is a diuretic, detoxifier and lymphatic stimulant , helps with cellulite and uplifts the spirits.

Lemon (Citrus Limon) Lemon is high in D- limonene and a- pinene which has been found to promote leukocyte formation and thus boosts immunity. This also increases lymphatic function, supports the immune system, increases lymphatic circulation and remove toxic wastes.
